THERE’S NO DENYING THAT THE BELT BAG TREND ISN’T GOING ANYWHERE ANYTIME SOON. WE ALL KNOW THAT WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND IN THE WORLD OF FASHION + THE BELT BAG IS NO EXCEPTION. THE BELT BAG SAW ITS RESURGENCE AS A NOSTALGIC STREET STYLE STAPLE A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, BUT NOW AS THE TREND CONTINUES TO GROW AND EVOLVE IT HAS BEEN REIMAGINED AS A MORE SOPHISTICATED + CHIC PIECE.
The bum bag or the fanny pack (depending on what hemisphere you live in) continues to gain popularity amongst fashionistas not just because it’s sleek but also because it combines the perfect mix of form + function. Plus the hands free elements make it a practical + convenient option to have in your wardrobe.
But alas, the classic belt bag can still conjure up images of cringeworthy 90's fashion (Dwayne Johnson anyone). That's why I’m here to talk you through picking the right belt bag to make you feel like the stylish + fashionable beauty you are. How do I wear a bum bag with jeans? How do I style a belt bag into my everyday work + play wardrobe? I will answer these questions + more below dear readers.
We love a belt bag here at Sans Beast + here our our three signature styles:
The Petite Smuggler embodies the classic 90’s belt bag silhouette + also brings the modern with the signature Sans Beast branded webbing, smartphone sized front pocket + slider pockets for cards. It’s on trend + perfect for anyone looking for an everyday piece with an edge.
The Petite Smuggler is one of my personal favourites. I love to wear it as a belt bag over a pair of high waisted jeans. One added bonus of a belt bag is that it will really slim the waist + also elongate the legs when worn with a high waist pant.
The Petite Smuggler's strap can be lengthened so the piece can be worn cross body. This look goes with pretty much anything + is great for everyday wear. The Petite Smuggler will fit your phone, wallet, sunnies + even a small camera so it’s great for you guys + gals on the go.

Finally, The Petite Smuggler features the vintage inspired luggage handle you know + love from us. I carry mine by the handle when I’m heading out at night. I feel like it gives my outfit an edgier look - particularly when I pair it with a floral or pastel dress.
The Bandolier Bag is compact but still packs a punch + is perfect for when you want to travel light. Or travel in general as it’s the perfect size to fit your passport (when those borders open back up).
Like all our belt bags, The Bandolier comes with an adjustable strap so that it can also be worn as a cross body style.
I love that this one is compact + lightweight. It will fit your favourite daily essentials which are made extremely accessible when worn on the waist. When you need to carry a little more it looks great paired back with a tote. May I suggest The Overflow?
The Bandolier is also becoming a fast favourite amongst freelance creatives like make up artists + stylists as its shape lends itself to hold your fave beauty brushes, sticky tape or whatever else you may need for a day on shoot. Plus as far as these kinds of practical bags go - you’d be hard pressed to one more stylish than our Bandolier.
I love how Kerryn from Radical Yeshas paired her Bandolier with a soft suiting moment for a 2020 take on business woman fashion.
The Freefall was designed for people who don’t want to be tied down. This style is all about options. Wear it as a belt bag. Wear it as a cross body. Add a strap to the D rings + carry as a shoulder bag. Lose the strap + use it as a clutch on a night out. The hardest part really is making up your mind.
A Sans Beast fan + team styling go-to is threading the circle pouch through the strap for twice the fun. The Freefall was designed to fit the most essential of essentials + this look is ideal if you want to need those extra one or two items you can’t live without.
At a more compact size, I would recommend The Freefall to anyone wanting to play with the belt bag trend but who isn’t quite ready to go big with it.
BONUS: THE READER SATCHEL
Did you know that Sans Beast’s signature satchel can also be worn as a belt bag? Simply thread your favourite belt or satin scarf through the back panel and voila- your fave cross body bag is now your very own statement, boxy, belt bag. If you know, you know!
I hope I’ve made you feel more confident to deep dive + start your journey into the wide world of belt bags. I can promise that once you’ve experienced the versatility + hands free goodness of a belt bag you won’t want to go back.
Of course, if you already have your hands on one of ours don’t forget to tag us in your pics + let us know how you’re styling it. We love to see our beasts in the wild....and you may even be showered with more than just our love when you tag us.
