Series 16: Behind the Curtain

To go behind the curtain is to delve into all the facets that make up our collection.  The materials, sketches, patterns, specifications, makers + locations where we spend our time to bringing it all together.

To build a purpose-led brand that challenges the notion that animal skins are necessary for stylish carry, is not a simple path - with our 16th collection we aim to share the stories of why, how + what we do.

From the boutique handbag factory in Dongguan, China to the streets of Hong Kong, to the olive groves of Turkey, to the petite HQ in Brunswick where the recipe for Sans Beast is built upon series after series - we will tell these stories.

The vision remains the same as day 1 of this Sans Beast journey - create bold yet practical handbags for those seeking a unique, quality, cruelty free carry.

Most of our bags are made at a small factory called Xiongxuan Leather Goods, in the Houjie area of Dongguan, China. The factory is pristine + expertly run, and the care that goes into the bags is evident. Here's a snapshot of the images we captured while at the factory in June this year.

We headed to HK after our a few days at the factory, and amidst the frenetic energy of Sheung Wan streets, managed a shoot with local model, Cheryl. The day was hot, the humidity was full on + we covered a lot of ground in a few hours.

HK has always been inspiring to me + I'd almost consider it a second home, having travelled there for business for 25+ years. There's a beautiful contrast of the old + new that is evident everywhere you look.

Series 16 sees us introduce materials from Turkish maker Oleatex - a pioneering company making leather alternatives using waste from the olive oil industry.  We also introduce a handful of new styles + return a few favourites to the collection.

We hope you enjoy exploring our latest loves, and find your own carry joy within.
