GIVE BACK: EDGAR'S MISSION.
"From day 1 of Sans Beast, we wanted to ensure we were walking our talk by committing to animal welfare in a tangible way.
The gross profits from the sales of our bag charms go to Edgars Mission, and whilst it's a small start - we are focused on increasing this contribution as our brand + business builds". Cathryn Wills
The first thing we experienced when we visited Edgars Mission in the Winter of 2016 was the sight of lambs skipping towards us in handknitted jumpers. They are so damned cute, happy, playful + affectionate - it's impossible to think of them as anything other than baby animals; just like a puppy or a kitten.
We did a 2 hour walk through the paddocks, sheds + barns of Edgars Mission, learning about the animals + the trauma of their lives before they came to be in this sanctuary of care.
"Few Australians are aware that the vast majority of animals in human care in this country – some 500 million ‘food’ or ‘production’ animals – have been excluded from the protection of our animal welfare legislation. In particular, millions of farmed animals daily, endure lives of abject misery in factory farms. Barely able to move, as they endure acts of cruelty that would be illegal if they were your cat or dog." Edgars Mission
Edgar’s Mission was founded by Pam Ahern and named after her first rescued pig, Edgar. Edgar Alan Pig, aka “the pig who started it all” sadly passed away shortly after his 7th birthday party in April 2010. Pam has built Edgars Mission with her dedicated team, and relies on donations for survival.
Visiting Edgars MIssion is free + it's an hours drive from Melbourne. The walk + talk is educational + the connection with animals (that many of us have forgotten as we walk the supermarket aisles choosing which 'meat' will be purchased for dinner) - is impactful.
"If we could live happy + healthy lives without harming others, why wouldn't we?" Pam Ahern
