AILYSH - DIGITAL MARKETING CO-ORDINATOR

Farewells:

I will be leaving behind frivolous spending.
No more impulse purchases (particularly whilst food shopping when hangry.)

No more ‘filling time’.
I wish to use the spare time I have productively. I plan to consume challenging content, call my mum more regularly and encourage my creative flow.

Less mindless consumption.
I aim to consider what I put into and on to my body and where my purchases originate.

Manifest:

Sign-up, train for and complete my first Triathlon.

Help make Sans Beast a pioneer of high end, cruelty free fashion, so that the brand captures the zeitgeist of the 2020s that makes cruelty free fashion habitual.

I hope to make a positive impact on those around me supporting, teaching and encouraging friends, family & strangers whenever possible.

EMILY - DESIGNER

Farewell:

Negative self talk
and catastrophising situations.

Lack of discipline
in achieving health and fitness goals.

Overcommitting socially and leaving too little time to recharge and spend time by myself.
    Manifest:

    Consistently do the things
that I know will keep me in a positive headspace - exercising frequently, meditating regularly, and cooking and eating nourishing food.

Spend time seeking inspiration by attending more exhibitions, galleries and being amongst nature.

Decorate my apartment so it becomes more of a homely space and is a better reflection of my personal taste and creativity.

EM - GRAPHIC DESIGNER + DIGITAL COORDINATOR

    Farewell:

Leave self doubt and fear in 2019.  Too much time spent on unnecessary anxiety and worry. It's time to trust myself.

Leave laziness and “I’ll do it tomorrow" behaviour behind.  Time is valuable and I cannot afford to waste it.

The “If I’m not great first go I'll never be great” attitude.  2020 is the time to practice and excel in new skills and refine the ones I already have.

    Manifest:

Learn how to respect and love my body, by choosing how I view it + how I sustain it, and also develop my mindset that without my body I wouldn’t be me.

To create more - to paint, draw, sculpt, photograph and film I want to create memories and beautiful things.

Education.  I want to learn + read more about places, events + policies that are happening the world around me, I crave a deep understanding of the world, how I fit in it and how I can make a positive impact.

    JENNIFER - STUDIO MANAGER

    Farewell:

Procrastination.  It weighs down your to-do list as well as your mind, get shit done and let that shit go.

Feeling guilt about work vs kids.  No one wins, least of all me, when I feel guilty about balancing working + parenting. Sometimes the balance works and sometimes it’s chaos, it’s the nature of the beast, but agonising over it doesn’t help.

Neglecting friendships.  It’s too easy to get so busy I don’t have time to catch up with girlfriends. I’m done with putting friendships too far down the priority list and not making time for the important women in my life.

    Manifest:

Thinking relationally at work and beyond.  Everything is relational, it’s all about how we interact with each other. I’m focussing on being empathetic to others’ stories and remembering the impact we have on each other.

Kindness.   If the 2010s were about seeing people in terms of their differences and defining them as “other” (refugee, conservative, LGBTQ, vegan etc), I think the pendulum has swung enough that the 20s will be about realising we’re all a connected community and we have far more that unites us than divides us. Showing kindness to all kinds will be so important in the coming decade.

Fun.  I’m determined to make time for more fun this year. It fuels creativity + energy and helps salve an anxious mind. More of it has to be a good thing.

CATHRYN - FOUNDER + CREATIVE DIRECTOR

    Farewell:

The feeling that I always need to be doing something productive in my down time.  I will balance the need for personal + professional growth with quiet recharge time.

Procrastinating on things that need to happen at home.  I invest most of my effort + time into building Sans Beast, and as a result, my home office is a junk room.  Time to create a sanctuary at home that has equal respect to the studio.

Taking my health for granted.  I'm healthier than I was 5 years ago, but still fall down the rabbit hole of indulgence + debauchery on occasion (I'm talking to you, glass of red wine).  I'm super aware after John's accident in particular, that optimum health can be with us one day, and be compromised the next.  I need to work hard to maintain physical movement + mental agility.

    Manifest:

Daily meditation.  A couple of times a week isn't cutting it.

Hobby growth.  I'm starting a ceramics course at Bisque Studios in January + can't wait to learn for the sake of learning.

Celebrating the ageing process.  I turn 50 in 2020.  I plan on embracing all the good things about still being alive + healthy.  My dad died at the young age of 52 + whilst he had a long history of heart disease, I know that his response to stress didn't help the situation.  I want to go into 2020 feeling relaxed, strong, focused + grateful for life.

    JOHN - OPERATIONS MANAGER

    Farewell:

Any more damage happening to my leg.  Six months of 2019 spent limping after two leg surgeries, only to have a freakin' mirror fall on it at our sample sale.  I'm over it.  That shit can stay in 2019.

Birds poo'ing in our warehouse.  I love animals + all, but these birds need to find another toilet.  No, they haven't pooed on the bags - just my desk.

Agreeing to do these lists.  Leave me alone. Isn't it enough that I pack the orders with skill, love + finesse?

    Manifest:

Getting back to pilates + riding my bike again.  No explanation needed.

Smiling more.  Well, not really, but I've been told I need to say something positive.

Gardening more.  I'm sure I'd smile more if I could just stay home, cook + build a green sanctuary.

Happy 2020 everyone - may it be all you wish for....nay, may it be all you MAKE HAPPEN.
