We created the concept for this shoot mid 2020. The plan was to shoot it for Series 6, but with all the lockdowns experienced last year in Melbourne, along with borders closing, we pressed pause. Then the sun shone in late November, our state of Victoria was unlocked, and we were able to get back to dreaming of a road trip to cactus fields + a nostalgic motel.
The universe was looking after us, as the mood of the Series 7 colour palette suited this concept perfectly. The colour palette is evocative of a 1970’s motel + we also like to think we’ve given a nod to our colour hero, Wes Anderson.
Jess Brohier shot the campaign, Rainey Pensini styled, Juliette d’Udekem d’coz fronted the lens and Bianca Fusca created the video. We also had a small team of support crew, Emily Esen + Indigo King on HMU and BTS (most of our lo-fi video footage + BTS shots were captured by this dynamic duo), Alex Schoelcher + Rebecca-Marian Irene were Jess Brohier’s right + left hand photography crew.
We have so many amazing places to visit in Australia - and with lockdowns, it’s been even more important for us to find destinations within our borders (or just across, when permitted). The notion of the road trip is in the hearts of many Australians. Taking to the wide open road, seeing fields pass in a blur, with big skies above, singing along to music or having rambling conversations is central to many a childhood memory. We wanted to capture that feeling of getting away to a place that lacked pretension, where a relaxed elegance could be brought in with our animal loving, vegan friendly handbags.
This season sees us introduce Desserto Pelle cactus leather in the form of The Francisco Ox Double Pouch crossbody bag, along with a raft of styles in recycled PU coated fabric, replacing much of our virgin PU’s in the pebble + silken surfaces. We continue to be on a mission to inspire + uplift through our content, our conversations + our collections. We believe great style does not need to come at the cost of animal exploitation.
We’ve had many challenges to contend with in terms of delivery, shipping + customs for this collection - but we are finally (nearly) there. If 2020 brought with it a feeling of loss, 2021 is about being found. Series 7, Lost + Found is optimistic + channels the mood of eternal sunshine.
We don’t want to be trapped in a season or a weather pattern at Sans Beast. The sun will continue to shine every day, somewhere, and we’re here for that feeling, always.
