THE CREATIVE JOURNAL

It's Fashion Revolution 2023, the 10th anniversary of a global campaign that was conceptualised after the horror of the Rana Plaza collapse in 2013. The aim is to bring attention + respect to workers + the planet. We'll be marking the week with stories on who's behind our bags, as well as expanding our charity giving + a super exciting upcycling collab to come.

Be inspired by our International Women's Day Female Founder Series. From a range of market sectors + backgrounds, these women all share stories of creativity, vision + leaning in to the risk of building something from nothing.
Sans Beast was created with the sole purpose of delivering vegan fashion that had beauty without the beast, so we don't hesitate to lend our voice to the #dropcroc campaign to end the slaughter of crocodiles for fashion.
2020 has been tumultuous so far + Sans Beast has not been immune to the challenges.  As a niche, vegan handbag brand celebrating our second birthday in March, it was a rude awakening to follow the blowing out of the birthday candles with a new acronym + lifestyle - WFH.  However this post is not about doom + gloom, it's about celebrating creativity, getting excited about a new collection, recognising the power (and importance) of collaboration + enjoying the notion of blooming again.
Read about our inspiration, our collaborators + why we felt so strongly about getting illuminated, for our Series 05 photographic campaign.  In a time of unrest in the world, let us stand up + do better by each other, the animals + the environment.  Let us prove we are worthy of being stardust.

We asked musician Holly Rankin (aka Jack River) + Jess Cochrane to share some of their thoughts on the environment, the human condition, the future + quite simply, how they respond to the noise, through their creativity.  We came away from these chats inspired + uplifted.  Art + music are two powerful mediums for human connection - we could all do with more of these in our lives.

After meeting Sydney based artist Alisha Rich, through IG (where so many creative convos start nowadays...), we commissioned two paintings to underpin the waterflow feeling of Series 04.  We chatted about her practise, what it is about watercolour that resonates + why rebellion against the status quo is at the centre of her approach to creative living.
Creating a business with an ethical ethos is no easy task.  We spoke with Amanda Walker, Co-Founder + Head of Operations at vegan fast food chain, Lord of the Fries, Anna Ross, Founder + Creative Director of ethical beauty brand Kester Black, and Gilat Shani, Designer + Co-Owner, Unreal Fur - about building a business with purpose, what collaboration looks like + how they remain focused + optimistic when challenges arise. This is Part 1 + next week for Part II, we'll talk with the fabulous founders of Ahimsa Collective, TWOOBS + No Saints shoes.
Impromptu destinations, living in a van for months on end + discovering new perspectives on the road.  We talk to some fascinating people about their traveling lives and share a few dream destinations for the traveller wanting to tread lightly on this earth...and escape Winter.  Get that travel wishlist happening...thoughts become plans become actions.
We spoke with the incredible artist Lisa King, about her large scale artworks, the gallery space she co-founded, speaking up + out on animal welfare, and the enduring beauty of the Renaissance.  In addition to being an inspiring artist - Lisa is also passionate about animal rights, and is not afraid to use her voice for the voiceless.
Ella discusses creative direction, her dog Bobby, going off the grid and how she stays inspired.  We have worked with Ella on two campaigns, and both times she has brought creativity + energy to the project.  She has a unique style, with an enormous talent for nailing an eclectic yet effortless look.
A peak behind the scenes of our Series 2 shoot - The Book of Harlequin.  Shot by Cubed Studio, styling by Bec Cole, models Jeff Ksubi + Tora Flink, HMU Karen Burton + video Josef Gatti.  This was back in 2018 - which feels like a lifetime ago.  The shoot was inspired by the dreamstate of reading favourite books.
