PACK YOUR (VEGAN) BAGS: THE WEATHER IS TURNING COLDER IN THE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE + WE'RE LOOKING TO ESCAPE - OR EMBRACE - THE CHANGE OF SEASONS.  HERE'S SOME CRUELTY FREE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PLACES TO STAY + EAT AROUND AUSTRALIA THIS WINTER.

The market for vegan restaurants, cafes, retreats + accomodation is growing in Australia.  The cruelty free community is making itself known in the tourism industry + it's increasingly easier to find not only vegan options on the menu, but whole venues dedicated to vegetarian, vegan or plant based meals.

We've rounded up some stunning Winter Getaway ideas for every state and territory, as well as events + vegan eats to keep your cold days cruelty free.

QUEENSLAND

Noosa Hinterland near The Beet Retreat

For us southerners, the thought of escaping the chill of winter and heading to Queensland is so, so tempting.  Check out The Beet Retreat in Noosa, set on 3 beautiful acres and offering an entirely plant based menu as well as vegan cooking classes.

TASMANIA

Oceans of Air by Tomás Saraceno

Winter in Tassie means Dark Mofo at Mona, where you can explore a diverse array of music, theatre + visual art. We're keen to check out the work of Tomás Saraceno who uses materials from spider webs to radiation balloons + dust particles in 'Oceans of Air'. While you're in Hobart make sure to check out Harissa Hobart for delicious plant based meals they can deliver direct to your (hotel) door.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA

Trestrail Cottage

Sleep in this jaw dropping glass-walled haven at Trestrail Cottage  in the Clare Valley, set on 100 acres of bushland.  It's conveniently close to an array of wineries - so make sure you visit the cellar door at Kilikanoon for a taste of their award winning shiraz.  All their wines are vegan friendly.

NEW SOUTH WALES

Kyah Boutique Hotel

Stay at the Kyah Boutique Hotel in the Blue Mountains, a beloved 1970s motel that's been reimagined in Palm Springs-style pastel tones. Play tennis onsite or hike the nearby surrounds, or book a tour at Secret Creek Sanctuary, a refuge for Australian native wildlife.  And refuel from all that activity at Plant Based Wholefoods in Katoomba that has an entirely vegan offering.

VICTORIA

Peninsula Hot Springs

Indulge in the sensory delight of outdoor geothermal bathing at Peninsula Hot Springs. It's a magical experience to plunge into the pools - heated to up to 42 degrees celsius - and escape the chill on a freezing day. If you're sticking closer to Melbourne, try Lona Misa at Ovolo South Yarra for a mostly vegan menu (with some vegetarian inclusions).

WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse

Visit the coastal town of Augusta for a glimpse of the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse or take a whale watching tour, to witness these magnificent animals as they make their winter migration to warmer waters.  Stop in at Urban Bean in Margaret River for a taste of their wholly vegetarian + vegan menu, and check out the completely vegan selection of wines at Perfect Break Wines.

ACT

National Arboretum Canberra

Book a stay at the Ovolo Nishi + enjoy the vegetarian menu at their Monster Kitchen, and take a tour at the National Arboretum to discover rare, endangered + significant forests.  You can see (some) of the 44,000 trees planted onsite as part of their commitment to global plant diversity + conservation.

NORTHERN TERRITORY

Florence Falls, Litchfield National Park NT

Indulge in a plant based breakfast at Ebb + Flow in Darwin before heading just an hour away to Litchfield National Parkthe traditional lands of the Wagait people. The park is home to waterfalls + waterholes including the incredible Florence Falls.  NT is definitely about escaping the winter chill, with average temps above 30 degrees from May - July.

WHAT BAG TO TAKE ON YOUR WINTER GETAWAY?

No matter your destination this winter, our receptacle of choice for a weekend getaway is the Daytripper Tote.  With a generous interior, adjustable straps plus a webbing crossbody strap, and a rear slider pocket to fit over a suitcase handle, it's the perfect cruelty free travel companion.

For sightseeing, consider a vegan crossbody bag like the Reader Satchel or Bright Spark, with enough space for daily needs + the versatility to wear in any holiday setting.  Add an Xtra Overflow or Traveller Tote to your suitcase for grabbing supplies, stocking up at a winery or visiting a market + you're all set.

Whether you seek to embrace or escape the chill this winter, there are plenty of vegan options for a relaxing getaway + cruelty free bags to take with you.

Enjoy!

XO,
Studio Sans Beast
