Another year of running a small, purpose led, vegan friendly business has brought learnings, challenges, wins + losses. So much has happened this year + as someone who likes to reflect + improve, I've written this post to share a few of the moments of clarity that struck this year. Always grateful for what we've built + for the wise, creative + talented folk we work with - and for you, the community growing with us day by day.
IN CONVERSATION: MARTHA BUTLER OF LOVING EARTH CHOCOLATE
By Jennifer Wills
We recently chatted to Martha Butler, co-founder of Loving Earth - the Melbourne based chocolate makers with an unswerving focus on ethical sourcing + organic, vegan ingredients. Even their chocolate wrappers are home compostable. Read on to learn more about this beautiful vegan brand that works to deliver joy in all they do.
Our small second drop from Series 8: Elemental is here. Think summery shades of pink, white, pastel blue + sandy yellow. Perfectly timed for party season.
Sourcing materials is a major part of creating our vegan handbag collections at Sans Beast. With our core mission to use no animal products, we take a look at the range of biobased + manmade materials currently available for non leather handbags, and talk you through some of the issues in selecting the right materials. Cost, minimums, freight + commercial availability are all factors that come into play when we're compiling our wishlist for new collections.
Series 7, Lost + Found, has landed. We created this concept mid 2020. Dreams of travel served as inspiration for the campaign story, a road trip to cactus fields + a nostalgic 1970's motel.
INSPIRATION: VALENTINES DAY - READ, WATCH, LISTEN TO LOVE
By Jennifer Wills
We are a team of humans that love love, in all its forms. This Valentines Day, we have some recommendations for movies, books + more that celebrate love - romantic, platonic, familial + of course self love, because all love is worth shouting from the rooftops about.
Sans Beast was created with the sole purpose of delivering vegan fashion that had beauty without the beast, so we don't hesitate to lend our voice to the #dropcroc campaign to end the slaughter of crocodiles for fashion.
Sans Beast is gearing up for the festive season, planning vegan feasts + of course plenty of vegan bags on our gift lists. Read more about what we're eating, supporting + gifting this year, along with details of our festive gift wrapping + the all important shipping timelines.
Our new collection Series 8: Elemental introduces a palette inspired by nature, with shades of olive, beetroot, moss + wheat. Discover what's new - and what's not - at Sans Beast.
We recently chatted to Sian Murray, co-founder of Pleasant State - the Sunshine Coast based startup, focused on revolutionising the cleaning products space, with earth friendly solutions. They're cruelty free, locally made + incredibly committed to their vision. Read on to learn about this dynamic duo + what they've got planned for getting your home clean, sans toxic chemicals.
EDUCATION: IS LEATHER ENVIRONMENTALLY SUSTAINABLE?
By Cathryn Wills
In our educational blog post from October 2020, 'Should Tanned Leather Be Called ‘Natural’'? we promised a part two to this topic, exploring the impact of intensive animal agriculture on the environment - and how this has a direct link to the profitable co-products that are outputs of slaughter when it comes to measuring impact on the earth. We asked Emma Hakansson, founder of Collective Fashion Justice + Willow Creative Co, to pen the article, given her extensive research + work in this space. Emma dives into the environmental impacts of industrial animal farming + the requisite co-product of leather.
