THE MATERIALS

For us, it starts with a simple promise. We don't use animal products in creating our collections.

We utilise certified recycled synthetics + new generation bio-based materials - as they are kinder to animals + the planet.

Yes, it's true. Even recycled synthetics have a lower carbon footprint than animal-derived leather. Head to our SB Journal if you'd like to learn more.

RECYCLED SYNTHETICS

Most of our current collection is constructed using materials with 58% recycled content - including PU coated fabrics, recycled polyester webbing + our printed lining made from recycled PET (plastic bottles.)

These fabrics are certified under either the Global Recycled Standard or Recycled Claim Standard, and comply with both REACH and Prop65.

Despite synthetics having a bad rap in the world of fashion - and some of it well founded - PU coated 'faux leather' has a far lower environmental footprint to cow leather. Read this if you'd like to learn more.

NEW GENERATION MATERIALS

An ever-growing component of our collection is made up of bio-based leather alternatives - including Italian Uppeal™ Appleskin and Oleatex olive-derived materials.

OLEATEX MATERIALS

Our new collection, Series 17, continues our use of materials from Oleatex —a Turkish company creating innovative, biobased leather alternatives using waste from the olive industry + proprietary bio-PU made from soy + corn.

Oleatex is 90% bio-based and has a carbon footprint 6 times lower than animal leather.

UPPEAL™ APPLESKIN

Uppeal™ Appleskin is made up of 25% apple material from fruit industry waste + 35% REACH compliant PU, on a poly cotton substrate.

It has a carbon footprint approximately 8 times lower than the production of animal leather.

metal work

Our hardware is made from zinc alloy + then plated in a variety of tones depending on the item we are trimming.

The plating is a surface layer and will fade over time, depending on skin type, sweat, perfume etc.

Our metal chain handbag straps are made from robust + super strong aluminium.

We continue to explore recycled metals + plan to implement these into the collection as we grow.
